A Haunting in Connecticut. In 1986, the Snedeker family moved to Southington, CT. They were looking to start a new life and help their son, Philip(age 13) who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Prior to then, they had lived in upper NY state and were 300+ miles from the nearest treatment centers.
The Snedeker’s made the move with their four children. Upon arrival, the house was normal, with the exception of crosses that were hung above each doorway and various types of equipment in the basement. The father told the family that the home used to be a funeral home and that the equipment in the basement was used to prepare the bodies. Mr. Snedeker then left to head back to NY where he would continue this job. Once he left, Philip turned to his mother and said, “Mom, this house is evil. We need to leave here right away!” She didn’t listen.
After blocking off the embalming room, Philip stayed in the basement. It was the closest area to the bathroom in case he felt sick. It was also furtherest from the family in case Philip made too much noise. During the first night Philip claimed to had seen a man standing in the corner of the room who had long dark hair down to his waste. This man would frequently visit Philip, calling out his name and just standing there.
Believing it to be a side effect from the radiation, the family ignored the problems at first. Eventually as they continued, Philip’s brother Brad moved down to the basement with him. It didn’t take long before Brad began to hear and see the spirits as well. Things grew stranger from there as Philip grew more and more depressed, drawing sinister things in a journal which included murder plans, demons and more. What made the writing even more disturbing was that Philip was dyslexic and always had difficulty. He was changing, becoming darker and nobody in the family felt safe. The spirits were winning.
The ghosts then began to spread throughout the house. They ripped the covers off of the daughters bed during the night and moved things around the room. Skeptical of the ghosts, the family blamed the evening events on Philip and he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, eventually being taken away to a mental facility.
Once Philip left the home, the paranormal events got worse. Mrs. Snedeker was wrapped in a shower curtain, groped and all the children had their sheets torn off the bed. Rosary Beads were broken and disembodied voices began to yell at them. The family asked for help from Mr. and Mrs. Warren who were later able to exorcise the house, removing the bad energy. The Snedeker’s eventually moved from the home and never had another paranormal experience again.
Many families have owned the home since, yet no more activity has ever been reported. Will the spirits ever come back to haunt?
